Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog)
We have another exciting yoga pose we would like to share with you today. Another beneficial naked yoga pose you can enter in your yoga journal. The Adho Mukha Svanasana has tons of benefits for all practitioners of the erotic art. Translated to English, it means Downward-Facing Dog: adho meaning downward; mukha means face; and svana means dog.
To start, come onto the floor on your hands and knees. Put your knees directly below your hips with your hands slightly forward of your shoulders. Spread your palms, index fingers parallel or a bit turned out as you turn your toes under.
Raise your knees away from the floor as you exhale. You can start with your knees slightly bent and the heels lifted away from the floor. Your tailbone should be lengthening away from the back of your pelvis and then press it lightly toward the pubis. Against this resistance raise the sitting bones upward, and from your inner ankle draw the inner legs up into the groins.
Then exhale and push your top thighs back and stretch your heels onto down the floor. Straighten your knees without locking them. Make the outer thighs firm and roll the upper thighs inward a bit. Narrow down the front of your pelvis.
Now, make your outer arms firm and plant the bases of the index fingers actively into the ground. From these two points raise your inner arms from the wrists to the tops of the shoulders. Make your shoulder blades firm against your back, then expand them and draw them toward the tailbone. Make sure to keep the head in the middle of your upper arms; avoid letting it hang.
Adho Mukha Svanasana or Downward-Facing Dog is one of the naked yoga poses in the traditional Sun Salutation sequence. It’s also a great naked yoga asana all on its own. Remain in this nude yoga pose anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes. Then bend your knees to the floor as you exhale and rest in the Child’s yoga pose.
The anatomical focus of this naked yoga is the upper back. You can get a lot of benefits from the Downward-Facing Dog or the Adho Mukha Svanasana. It can calm the brain and aids in relieving stress and mild depression. It energizes the body. It also stretches the shoulders, hamstrings, calves, arches, and hands. It also strengthens the arms and legs. For women: it can help relieve the symptoms of menopause; relieves menstrual discomfort when executed with head supported; and also helps in the prevention of osteoporosis.
